The Recreator 1

So, after suffering enough defeats at the hands of e IG-88 - Assassin Droid/FN-2199 - Loyal Trooper, I decided to take the nuclear option and put together a variant on the deck everyone's talking about.

The Characters

  • Poe Dameron - Ace Pilot: the core of the deck. His ability lets you chuck basically whatever you want at your enemies.

  • Maz Kanata - Pirate Queen: with about a 55% chance to roll at least 1 Focus, you can course correct a wayward Poe die and resolve it before your opponent even knows what happened.

The Battlefield

  • Frozen Wastes - Starkiller Base: the obvious choice seems to be Emperor's Throne Room, but this battlefield has remarkable synergy with this deck. Between Fast Hands and Maz, you have such a good chance of resolving at least 1 Poe Special that another would be redundant. Frozen Wastes buys you more time to reload your hand, getting closer to that Thermal Detonator jackpot.

The Upgrades

  • DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol: It's good tech and a decent finisher if you're stuck with Maz at the end. Its ability probably won't hit a valuable die, but it's nice to have Ambush and a free 3 face to resolve with Maz.

  • Fast Hands: If anything's going to get the nerf hammer, it's this. Reducing the window between rolling Poe and resolving his dice is always a good thing.

  • Maz's Goggles: Increase the Maz focus chance from 55% to a 70% chance? Yes please. It's also a great standalone upgrade, though you'll find plenty of competition for your one resource. Planning to reduce to 1 copy in my next iteration.

  • Rocket Launcher: All its faces cost a resource to resolve, but you can't beat this thing for flexibility. 4 damage wherever you need it, basically.

  • Thermal Detonator: The card that gets better the more characters you have to stare down! This upgrade is what makes the deck tick; 6 to 9 damage in one shot is no laughing matter, even if it's all spread out. If you manage to drop 2 of these bad boys, it's usually game.

The Supports

  • C-3PO: Good for consistency, but not easy to play if you want to keep tempo. As long as there's a C-3PO die and a Poe die in your pool, you get to resolve his special.

  • Millennium Falcon: For those times when you just have to drop 4 in a single attack.

  • Planetary Uprising: This card's a bit obnoxious, but it's an amazing closer. Best played mid/late game when your opponent can't keep spreading the damage without losing a character.

  • U-Wing: Woo, more splash damage! Will bump up to 2 copies now that I have another, but I only needed one this time 'round.

The Events

  • Defensive Position: Situational, but deadly against powerful characters like Palpatine.

  • Dug In: Less useful in the era of Vibroknife and Ewok Village, but still a force to be reckoned with.

  • Electroshock: Standard removal is standard.

  • Hit and Run: Because anything that closes the gap between activating Poe and resolving his special is how this deck wins games.

  • New Orders: Pick your opponent's battlefield so you get shields, then drop one of these for some quick dice removal, then claim the battlefield for some more removal. It's a bit obnoxious.

  • Sabotage: For Imperial Inspection, Dark Presence, and the mirror match.

  • Scavenge: I've had people ask me why I use this and not Cheat. This card is cheaper, has better hand advantage, and is useful at any stage of the game. If you're doing it right, you don't need to worry about deck mill anyway.
