64 Players tournament, giving a free trip to the USA + Worlds entry for the winner (pretty fucking excited)
A Dooku Talzin won a National? Well smack my ass and call me Jody, 'cause it's true.
I used to use the saber build with It Binds All Things, and even tried it with Chance Cube to increase the chances of building a strong board at the beginning of the game, although increasing the number of even cards in the deck. But I was still struggling against Mill decks and especially SAD. And I didn't like the idea of playing Ancient Lightsaber turn one, roll and pray. I don't like the idea of not having a response.
So I had the idea of using a Sith Holocron build with The Power of the Force (which shone a lot, sometimes resolving 1 dmg for 5). 'Cause you see, the characters' dice already hit very hard. Playing like this allows me to save resourcers and interact more with the board, and also turning Dooku's dice to 3 paying one, avoiding removals such as Electroshock, Mislead and Entangle, and also comboing those dice off with All In and Unyielding for a huge amount of damage.
I regret a little of bit of taking two Frighten to the tournament, though it was the card that won me the last match. But I built the list in a way that I didn't want to worry about shields, nor Force Illusion. I just wanted to hit hard every turn as much as possible, overwhelming with damage.
The deck performed wonderfully, even if I didn't start with Sith Holocron or Force Speed (the latter being a must to avoid removals. Both All In and Unyielding are ESSENTIAL in a Dooku Talzin build, in my opinion.
And if you're wondering "Well, cool, but it's December already, where's Across the Galaxy?". Well, I'm not sure how it works in other countries, but here in Brazil we ALWAYS get late releases. And I'm not talking one or two weeks delay. I'm talking about waiting 2, sometimes even 3 full months to get the damn new collection. Which is a bummer, because besides the freaking anxiety of seeing the spoilers and longing to play with the new cards, our meta already starts being biased due to the other countries reports, not allowing us to experiment with the new collection. As of now, we only have the information that we'll get ATG in January. It could be on the 1st, or on the 30th. Hell, it could even be in February. This is pretty frustating, and sad. Well, enough with letting the steam off.
Day 1

-eSnoke/eBazine/Trooper - W
- -eYoda/Cassian/Anakin - W
Last win guaranteeded me 12th place, entering top 16.
Day 2
Top 16 - Best of 3
- Tacos 2-0
Top 8 - Best of 3
- eSnoke/Aphra/Droid 2-0
Top 4 - Best of 3
- eSnoke/eThrawn 2-0
Finals - Best of 3
- eYoda/Rey1/Ezra2 2-0
Very few Snokes as you can see. Can't wait for the new collection where he's nerfed.
It was an undeafeated run, which I'm very proud of. But it was HARD, man. Especially Tacos and SAD matches.
I want to congratulate Andre, my final opponent, for getting to the finals with also another deck which is actually not very present in the current meta, just as mine. It was an spectacular match, very, very tense. And if I had Yoda, I'd probably play that too, 'cause I love Blue Hero.
For those who have the interest, below follows the link of the final match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4kiYPwXXXQ
Two things became very clear to me after this tournament:
-
First. Pick a deck which you identify yourself with. Make sure it's competitive, practice with it, tweak with it, until you feel you found your build. No one believed in Dooku Talzin (there was only another deck in the champ), but I felt so confident with it that it'd be a shame if I chose something different, like something with Snoke (yiikes), which I don't even possess.
-
The second one is: remember to BREATHE. Especially during these high intensity competitions. If you're freaking out, passing through a great deal of anxiety during a match, just bring your attention to your breathing. And I don't mean "control" it. Just stop, and take good breaths naturally. Really just pay attention to the air flowing into your lungs, then out. BAM, suddenly your mind feels calm, relaxed, yet vigilant, alert. Then bring your attention back to the game. This is so important to avoid making misplays, and to remain balanced when you suffer a great loss in-game.
- Actually there's a third. Bring water. Always.

You deserve a shit load of credit man! First off, you're a hell of a player! One of those I'm very happy to play, because I know it's gonna be wild! Unfortunately, that ended my run too soon for my liking XD I'm very proud of you and happy for you!! |
Third bullet point was the most important one: keep hydrated folks! Well done Casanova, also, this might be the funniest report I've read in a long time! |
