SC Trilogy TOP 4 Zeb/Yoda Pain Train 1.0

Hello all! My name is Dylan and this is my Zeb/Yoda deck that I piloted to a top 4 finish at my local SC. Quick note before getting into the card choices. I was, originally, going to take a DJ deck to the tournament, but switched 10 hours before the tournament started, therefore, some of the cards are slightly not optimized due to either supply or due to what I thought I would be facing. Below you will find my reasons for my card choices that are not simple auto includes (looking at you Easy Pickings) Anyway, feel free to leave comments with questions or suggestions and I'll happily reply!

Crazy Card Selections

Dex's Diner: Without a doubt, the all star breakout card from Way of the Force. This card easily won me the most games as Zeb typically tanked most of the early damage and with Yoda able to generate resources so easily, this card healed for 2 every turn which was able to keep Zeb alive far longer than he should have lived for

Pacify: This card choice had a dual effect in my deck as it was able to act like a mini Caution while also giving certain value against heavy shield matchups such as with the new Luke Skywalker - Reluctant Instructor Rey - Finding The Ways decks that were showcased. Only giving them 0-1 shields and removing 2 damage seemed good if I had nothing else

Way of the Light: I knew going into this tournament that Kylo Ren - Tormented One was going to be a problem and this card serves multiple purposes. For starters, it can be insane in any villain matchup as it removes anything. Secondly, it is grey to mess with Kylo triggers. Finally, there are a ton of really good upgrades in trilogies that are neutral that this card hits to the surprise of my opponents. Heirloom Lightsaber, Dagger of Mortis, Darksaber just to name a few.

Impulsive: This card is still the best card in the deck hands down. With a Yoda 2 focus or even a special if things are dire, this card leads to massive 6-9 damage turns that your opponent cannot interact with. Stellar card.

Well-Connected 3 cost upgrades deal a lot of damage and getting them early helps!

-------Results---------

Round 1: Win vs Kylo/Snoke First round of the day and it's the deck I feared the most going into the day. This match went extremely smoothly as I was able to remove Kylo's damage die a vast majority of the time, preventing Snoke - Supreme Leader power action. That with some solid rolls on my end lead to a solid win.

Round 2: Win vs 5th Brother/Talzin This matchup was not directly on my radar and with a turn 1 Fifth Brother's Lightsaber coming down, I had to react quickly. Luckily, I drew the correct removal spells and hit a crucial Easy Pickings to 5th and hold on to win.

Round 3: Loss vs Luke/Hondo

This one was a nailbiter, I had to deal only one damage to Luke to kill him, but I got easy pickings twice. Heartbreaker. Also, it didn't help that my opponent avoided all of my mitigation. Solid game from my opponent though!

Round 4: Win vs Dooku/Talzin This matchup was not too bad as a friend of mine played Dooku/Talzin against me, so I knew roughly what to expect. Mitigating Dooku's Die and dealing 8 damage on turn one led to a win

Round 5: Win vs Luke/Rey Not going to lie, I got pretty lucky on this one. I was able to get Zeb Orrelios' Bo-Rifle out on turn 1 thanks to Well-Connected and then was able to set up a 9 damage impulsive to kill Luke on the start of round 2.

Round 6: Loss vs Kylo/Snoke This particular list had a better removal package than the first one I played against and he was able to land some nasty big hits with kylo and I was unable to kill him fast enough before enough weapons redeployed to Snoke

With that I went 4-2 and made it into top 8 since my losses were to the current 6-0 and 5-1.

Top 8: Win in two games vs Dooku/Talzin Same plan as in round 4

Top 4: Loss in 3 games vs Kylo/Anakin Close set all around and it was against Team Covenant so I can't complain. I set a goal to reach top 4 and I achieved it but I still gave my opponent a good match!
