I know that at this point this meta is over and done with, but I wanted to post the list in order to talk about the deck in case anyone wants to play it after rotation, to honor my opponents, and to get my own thoughts down in order to remember this really fun, well run event in the future. Atomic Games in Muncie, Indiana ran a great event!

Before the round by round report, the only card I would probably change is No Questions Asked. I subbed this in and took out Snuff Out because of its flexibility, but it didn't see much use, and probably helped me lose a game in the top 8. I probably should have played Overconfidence instead. I've seen many people play Retreat or Dex's Diner. In my opinion both are just a little too expensive. Money management is very important in this deck. I've seen some versions of this deck with one EMP Grenades and/or one Flames of the Past. I think the deck definitely needs two of each, and if you read my tournament report I think you'll agree. I used Flames on a Fist twice and on an Anakin's Pod once. I used EMP grenades twice in the tournament and was able to get it out round 1 both instances, which would've been hard to do without that extra copy. I thought about going down to one copy of Force Meditation, but in the mirror it's essential. Senate Chamber is a really clutch card, as many others have already found out, but the ability to remove a force speed die that didn't hit to turn any die is so strong. Also the die sides are killer and that side can be paired with Commando Raid if you draw it late game. That combo probably won me my Top 8 match.

Let's get to it.

Round 1 - DJ/Snoke - W - When I got to the event I was able to squeeze in a practice game with another of the 6 guys that came from our locals since I hadn't played in about 9-10 days, which made me nervous. He brought DJ/Snoke, which I knew was a bad matchup, and kicked my butt. I then got paired with a really good player, Alex, who I'd played before, who was also on DJ/Snoke. Fortunately, I learned a little from my pre-tournament match, and got pretty lucky on my opponent's rolls. Alex was able to get out Vader's Fist round 1, but he rolled the 3 disrupt side 4 times. No joke, he rolled it 4 times in a row. I was then able to use Flames of the Past on the Fist in the beginning of round 3 and that was pretty much the game. I was able to keep both characters alive and we played on my battlefield, which is huge.

Round 2 - Vader/Greedo - W - In Louisville and before this round in Muncie I had been begging to play Vader. In my testing locally I had yet to lose to Vader with Yoda/Leia, and I felt like it was a very favorable matchup vs a very common deck. I was happy to see it across from me, but that being said, my opponent knew what he was doing, and it was the closest game against Vader I've ever had. He won the roll off, which helped him ramp, which can be scary, but the mitigation in this deck is so good against Vader. My opponent had a couple of small misplays that may have made it a little closer at the end, but he killed Leia early round 3 and if he could have gotten one more round in he very well may have won.

Round 3 - Yoda/Cassian/Anakin - W - I was also glad to see this deck sitting across from me, believe it or not. I ran the deck in store champ season and have played this exact matchup a few times locally. Round 1 I used an EMP Grenades on his Anakin Skywalker's Podracer and I used a Flames of the Past on his second. We played on my battlefield, and my opponent missed 1-2 triggers after claiming once. He did get a killer In The Crosshairs play off on 4 specials (2 yoda, 2 force speed), but forgot the ambush. Good player, but my deck just mills faster.

Round 4 - Qui-Gon/Yoda/Solidarity - W - This was a tough game for my opponent. His rationale on Solidarity over Bitter Rivalry was that it avoided Flames and 2 damage, which makes some sense, but what ended up happening was that I was able to mill most of his more powerful cards (Ancient Lightsaber) and the ones that I couldn't mill I knew I only had to see once (Riposte). I feel like this worked in my favor. Three or four rounds in my opponent switched to mill, and because of Field Medic, I won the game with 0 damage on my characters. We also played on my battlefield, which always helps against a blue hero deck.

Round 5 - Snoke/Ciena/Traitor - W - This was a matchup I was unsure of, but it was against my soon-to-be co-finalist PSutty who is an excellent player, so I was cautious. He was confident that it was a bad matchup for him, and it ended up being pretty one-sided. We played on my battlefield, I was able to EMP his Umbaran Hover Tank, and Flames his Vader's Fist. Pretty tough game, but I'm glad he was able to fight back and make the finals with me!

Round 6 - Dooku/Talzin - W - Another tough matchup against a great player I had played before. Tim beat me in the finals of a Store Championship when I ran Yoda/Cassian/Anakin and he ran this same deck. Before this game I had never beaten Dooku/Talzin with a mill deck. Well, now I'm 1-2! We played on my battlefield, and I was able to end the game by using Flames on his Ancient Lightsaber to keep him from looping them and ruining my day. Tim is a great player and also still made top 8.

Round 7 - Beckett/Talzin/Profitable - L - This game was a nightmare. We played on my battlefield, but it was never close. He played Tobias Beckett's Rifle round 1, and killed Leia with a Backup Muscle at the end of round 2, right after I played a Force Illusion. It was also the last card in his hand. Obviously I misplayed, but the game also just didn't go my way. My opponent also made top 8.

Top 8 - Han/Qi'ra - W - 2-1 - After swiss I was the top seed and I was thrilled. My goal was to get top 8 in order to get the sick Vader Selfie Stick playmat, but once I made top 8, I wanted that trophy. I had to go against Brendan Devitt, a really good player on a deck I actually didn't have a ton of experience against. I knew what to expect, but not playing against the deck made me nervous. Game 1 we played on my battlefield and Brendan was only able to get out 2 upgrades and never got off Hyperspace Jump. After the win I was feeling pretty good until game 2 happened. In game 2 Brendan was able to use his battlefield to get out 4 upgrades and play both HS Jumps to crush me and make me nervous for game 3. This was the game where I played No Questions Asked in a situation where I was either going to lose or play it, but playing it gave him the money to jump me. Back on my battlefield for game 3, I was able to control things early, but he started to make it close. Brendan got off both HS Jumps again, and I thought I was done for. I was able to mill his last cards and leave him with 2 in hand and a 2 discard showing. He discarded to reroll, I discarded his last card, he resolved 2 discard on Qi'ra's dice to mill me completely out as well, forcing me to claim in order to win the game. Pretty wild way to end the best of 3, but it was a very fun series against a great player.

Top 4 - Yoda/Leia - W - 2-0 - The mirror. Something I wasn't looking forward to, but felt like I knew how to play it. My opponent, Gabe, was an excellent mill player who I believe went 6-1 in swiss as well. Both games were on his battlefield, and he missed 2 triggers in each game, and both games came down to 2-3 cards. I felt like I got the better end of the luck in terms of which cards I milled and discarded, and which cards he milled and discarded. In game 2 I played both of my Hit and Run's and both Commando Raid's. I didn't play them back-to-back, but it still helps show my good fortune. Excellent player though and I wouldn't be surprised to see him top tournaments soon.

Finals - Snoke/Ciena/Traitor - W - 2-1 Very close and very fun finals. We streamed them on Twitch if anyone is interested. GameTimeIndy is the channel. I knew winning the roll off would be huge, which is of course why the deck runs Taking Ground. I won the roll off and got my battlefield game 1. This game felt like the game I won against Parker in swiss. EMP'd his Umbaran Hover Tank with two mods on it and Flames'd his Fist. Felt pretty in control. Although the battlefield was really big, my card draws and which cards I was able to mill from him felt much more important, and I feel like I would've won even on his battlefield. Game 2 went mostly in his favor. I think I only got out one upgrade all game long. If I got out two, it happened late. Fist took the game late. Game 3 was incredibly close and very fun. I was able to keep his damage output very low and EMP'd a Slave I. Unfortunately, I Flames'd his Chance Cube right before he played his Fist, which caused the game to be pretty close. I was able to Flames the Fist two rounds later and seal the game although I only had 2 cards in hand and none in deck, so I was close to being milled myself.

15 games of Destiny later I feel pretty lucky and pretty happy. I enjoyed playing so many excellent players and meeting some new people that I hope to play again. It was really cool to be able to have 3 of our local guys in the top 8, and getting to play against Parker in the Finals was the best part

Gabe here- I appreciate the compliments, even though you wiped the floors with me haha. You were a great player, and I’ll gladly take that loss. Forgetting my battlefield was definitely a huge factor in our games, but you played around everything very well. It was a pleasure meeting you and playing each other in the top cut. I wish you the best of luck in your final!

Thanks for the comment Gabe! @OverbakedEZBake it was great meeting you and talking between rounds. It was nice to bounce ideas and updates off of another player on the same deck who I knew also knew what he was doing. Hopefully we'll get a chance to play again! If you use Facebook or Twitter for Destiny stuff look me up!
