Chimaera 276

Hi all,

Chimaera here and after loads of testing with this pairing, I was adamant that Tarkin still had a place in the meta and with Vader downsizing the average deck to 2 wide I figured this was a good time to test this theory!

I'll do my best to remember the games went as following:

Round 1 - Bye (After travelling at 4 in the morning for 4 and half hours I needed to chill so cashed in my bye)

Round 2 - Leia Organa - Heart of the Resistance/Yoda - Wizened Master mill (2-0)

This was being piloted expertly and totally took me by surprise with Force Speed allowing Leia to perform 4 discard a turn but with a lucky 4 discard thanks to Snoke I was able to capitalise for a turn and gain enough ground to win the game. Win

Round 3 - Leia Organa - Boushh/Yoda - Wizened Master (3-0)

Sitting across from this deck made me very nervous and knew a key ramp was essential. My deck is based around cheap upgrades leading to cheap Tarkin power actions allowing me to ramp and negate Leia. The key play was a double Probe hitting 2 Easy Pickings and 2 Overconfidence first turn. Really helped my damage output and control Leia. Win

Round 4 - Darth Vader - Terror To Behold/Greedo - Unlucky Mercenary (4-0)

Anger is a beautiful thing. With only a Force Speed upgrade I was able to do 13 dmg turn one where by I used 2 blanks to Anger Vaders 3 then Tarkin'd the blanks for 4. Afterwards I Snoked Tarkins Indirect and used a basic 2 ind of Snoke to finish the turn. Hard one to come back from where he only managed 2 dmg, key turn and luckily got me the win. Win

Round 5 - 3 wide Snoke - Snoke - Supreme Leader/Nute Gunray - Separatist Viceroy/Ciena Ree - Adept Pilot (5-0)

3 wide is hard for Tarkin so I mulligan'd hard for Force Wave and despite getting it my opponent mitigated it every turn well. Still with enough saturation of indirect and controlling his money preventing Vaders fist I was able to capitalise and took the game. Win

Round 6 - Qi'Ra - Street Savvy/Han Solo - Independent Hotshot (6-0)

A lot of health and a lot of tricks this deck would be hard. Key thing was to keep the pressure up and the snoke discard trick helped alot turn one. A good ramp and early damage meant it was hard to come back. Tarkins roll out did save me as he rolled two 2's mean an entangle couldn't hit with maximised effect turn 1. Win

Top 8 - Darth Vader - Terror To Behold/Greedo - Unlucky Mercenary (2-1)

First game was a loss, fatigue was hitting hard and Darth Vader - Terror To Behold is a big mental drain deciding when to mitigate and when to leave it. But Vader rolled hot and I had to accept dmg was being taken, Force Illusion and Anger play kept me in the run but ultimately Snoke went down too quick (bad early illusion play by me). Loss

Game 2 I didnt make the same mistake, got me a ramp and a key Anger play allowed me to finish Greedo - Unlucky Mercenary off then maximise output, key play was a Force Speed into a snoke power action on tarkin's 2 discard turning all indirect to 9 total to win the game. Win

Game 3 was a nail bite with very little health in it. Anger as ever being vital where a roll out Tarkin and Stifle combo won me this. Win

Top 4 - Darth Vader - Terror To Behold

Game 1 Vader hit fast and hard with a fist and his lightsaber on field. Despite this I held on with some early tricksand with 1 health in it on either side, Snoke - Supreme Leader failed to connect and lost. (0-1)

Game 2 Good hand and some clever plays meant I ramped well and even played some holocrons into force powers which was cool. So far ahead turn 2 my opponent conceded. (1-1)

Game 3 Starting hand was bad.... so bad. keeping 1 anger i mulligan'd 4 and got 2 angers, 2 stifle and 1 force speed. With dice co operating and not rolling blanks (imagine!!) and no control over Vader turn 1 meant dmg was taken and turn 2 onward Force Speed trick allowed him to re roll into high values and drew into no illusions to save the day. (1-2)

All in all I had an amazing time playing Tarkin. Being my favourite character in Star Wars it was a joy to play this deck!! The dmg output is crazy fun and the tricks you can pull are amazing. Moving forward I'm definitely in the boat of putting Force Jump instead of lightning or wave (found wave actually did very little) to deal with Vader and more blanks for anger :)

Anyway if you want to catch more action of this deck or other crazy tricks be sure to catch my YouTube channel, Chimaera

For now, May the force be with you all!!

I've been piloting Tarkin/Snoke for a few months now and find it very fun to play, and have had a lot of success with it also. I like the versitility of the deck, and can output a lot of damage turn one. I've been thinking of adding Force Jump also. Do you like Frag Grenades? Have you tried any of these events: It will All Be Mine, Undermine, Let the Hate Flow, Manipulate, Nowhere to Run?

@thart400To be honest I was pondering force jump just because of the synergy to blank a dice then anger if it re rolled into a blank to only then Tarkin that blank!! Its a deck with a lot of answers for damage and I love that! I love frags!! Better than handheld because I like to spam a lot of dice, handheld limits this! Its max dmg is also matched by the grenade!! The only one personally is manipulate was up there due to its anti Vader nature and still a big consideration. For the others I think their either too situational or too limiting, in this meta every card you have needs to be valuable! :)

Great deck mate, well piloted all day, was a pleasure hosting you!

Chimaera 276

@kjavis Yeah in several of the games it did come out, especially against vaders, really helps place that final sting and with chance cubes theres really no reason not to have it!

@Jonnywright104 thanks man!! Was a pleasure to game at Rebel Dice, will be back very soon!!
